Sustainability Policy: Western Wildlife and the Environment
Western Wildlife takes our commitment to a sustainable future seriously. As environmental consultants, we believe that we also have a duty of care to minimise the impact of our activities on the environment. To this end, Western Wildlife has implemented a number of practices to ensure we meet the highest possible standards in environmental sustainability.
Sustainability Targets
Our primary targets for environmental sustainability of our business activties are:
1) To cause no net increase in greenhouse gas emissions from our activties
2) To use recycled products wherever possible and "re-use, reduce and recycle".
3) To educate and raise awareness on conservation biology and sustainability

Best Practice Actions
We have achieved our sustainability targets in the following ways:
Target: To cause no net increase in greenhouse gas emissions from our business activties
Action: Western Wildlife's field vehicle (a small 1.4 L car) is registered with the Men of The Trees "Carbon Neutral" Program and is entirely carbon neutral, with emissions being offset by trees planted in salt-affected areas of the WA wheatbelt. Western Wildlife's air travel is also offset by the carbon neutral air-travel offset program. For further details see http://www.carbonneutral.com.au. Western Wildlife's office is also entirely carbon neutral with 100% power from renewable energy sources from Western Power's Natural Power program (http://www.westernpower.com.au/home/green_energy/home_naturalpower/home_naturalpower_overview.html). Partners in Western Wildlife are also re-vegetating half an acre of cleared land in the Perth Hills with local native vegetation.
Target: To use recycled products wherever possible and "re-use, reduce and recycle".
Action: Western Wildlife purchases and uses end-user recycled products wherever possible, including recycled paper and packaging. Ink cartridges for our printer are re-filled rather than being disposed of in the landfill system. All recyclable products from our office are recycled at all times. We also run a worm-farm and compost system for organic waste.
Target: To educate and raise awareness on conservation biology and sustainability
Action: Partners of Western Wildlife dedicate much personal time to conservation activities and raising public awareness. Dr Davis has contributed to several education projects on frogs including a CD on Australian frogs that was distributed to every primary school in Australia. Dr Davis also volunteers his time as Chair of Birds Australia WA and as Program Chair for the Society for Conservation Biology (Australasian Section). Ms Wilcox is a trained secondary teacher and specialises in environmental education. She has provided numerous talks and walks to the public. Both partners are also actively invovled in unpaid research with long-term bird banding studies investigating the persistence of bird populations in urban areas.
Thank you for taking the time to read our environmental and sustainability policy and we hope that you will support us in our efforts to work towards a sustainable future, and we encourage you to do the same.
