Common Name: Lea's Frog
Description: (After Tyler et al., 1994) A small brown or yellowish species with smooth ventral skin. The toes are diagnostic in that they have dilated tips. The middle of the back is usually characterised by a dark patch with an irregular border. The patch may be edged with white or replaced by irregular yellow markings, on occasion. The undersurface is greenish in colour. Size: 18-26 mm.
Distribution: Southwest WA from just south of Perth (Dandardagan) south and east to Two Peoples Bay (Albany).
Call: "chic..chic..chic..chic" (Main 1965)
Breeding: Winter breeder. Eggs are attached to aquatic vegetation above the waterline, and larvae fall into the water upon emergence. This is a unique aspect of its breeding biology and it is the only Australian frog to adopt this method.
Habitat: Streams
and swamps.
